The Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Act 709) or APDP is one form of cyber legislation certified in the implementation of the Multimedia Corridor (MSC). This Act is the Tenth National Policy Goal stated in the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which is to ensure the security of information and the reliability and integrity of the network.
The Personal Data Protection Bill 2009 was circulated in September 2000 to public and private agencies for comments and public opinion and was approved by Parliament on 5 April 2010 and approved by the Yang Dipertuan Agong on 2 June 2010.
The main objective of this law is to regulate the processing of personal data in commercial transactions by Data Users and protect the interests of Data Subjects.
