Personal Data Protection Best Practice Benchmarking Workshop with Industry, 5 and 6 February 2024
The purpose of the workshop is to get feedback from industry representatives regarding the implementation of personal data protection best practices and to make a comparative study between the proposed amendment of Act 709 with the legislation of other countries such as the United Kingdom, European Union, Japan, China, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Philippines and Australia.
The implementation of this workshop is also important as one of the PPDP Office’s initiatives to obtain input to develop regulations and guidelines for Act 709 as well as support the debate of YB Digital Minister and Members of Parliament during the upcoming Parliament session.
Among the scopes discussed during the workshop are as follows:

1. Extension of the scope of Act 709 to all transactions;
2. Increased penalty value for violation of personal data protection principles;
3. Additional compliance responsibilities to Data Processors;
4. Creation of the role of Data Protection Officer (Data Protection Officer) or DPO;
5. Obligation to send a data breach notification (Data Breach Notification) or DBN;
6. Introducing data portability rights (Data Portability) to Data Subjects; and
7. Abolition of the Whitelist for cross border data transfer (cross border data transfer)
