The Personal Data Protection Department (JPDP) is an agency under the Digital Ministry that was established on 16 May 2011 after Parliament passed the Bill relating to the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (APDP) i.e. Act 709.

This department is responsible for assisting the Personal Data Protection Commissioner in enforcing the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 [Act 709].

Act 709 was enacted to regulate the processing of personal data in commercial transactions in Malaysia

The main leader in protecting the importance of personal data in achieving well-being as a developed country in line with the National Transformation Agenda.

Regulating the protection of personal data to create trust among users that contributes to increased commercial transactions.

Regulate the processing of an individual’s personal data by data users so that it is used in a way that is full of integrity, safe and not misused, thereby indirectly providing protection to the individual.

Ensure that all users of personal data in commercial transactions comply with personal data protection laws as well as enforcement actions to combat the misuse of personal data so that the personal rights of Malaysians are always protected.
